I have been running thru my panel talk on appropriative writing for AWP which will take place next Thursday at noon at the Hilton Atlanta. I will talk about my source materials, writing process, being Asian-American and what that means in the context of my writing, and what it was like to grow up in SoCal. There will be visuals.
Join me also for a reading in Decatur on Wednesday night at Indie Books & Coffee. I read at 7:30.
On Friday, a reading at Eyedrum with many experimental poets of note.

This seems to be a year of reconciliation and comebacks for all of my favorite bands. "The Mary Chain join fellow headliners Bjork and the Arctic Monkeys on the Friday night at Coachella, held someplace outside of LA which is very difficult to get to by public transport." For the record - it's Southern California - of course it's difficult to get to via public transport.

ZoneZero Call for Images
http://zonezero.com
________________________________________________________________________________________
I am well aware that not all cultures enjoy the same special days for celebrating an event nor do so on the same day, in this case most of the western cultures celebrate Valentine's Day with variations. On the other hand, in the Chinese culture, for instance it's "The Night of the Sevens", In Japan and Korea it is called "White Day" which is of more recent origin and associated with marketing efforts by candy makers.
Valentine's Day is however a celebration which dates back to Chaucer in the year 1382, today it is most closely associated with the mutual exchange of love notes. So we thought it would be in keeping that in ZoneZero a site dedicated to photography, we would ask all of our readers, to send us your images interpreting your way of understanding the spirit of Valentine's Day and love.
With the advent of digital photography and the internet, we know it is now so much easier to do so in a very practical way and to have the world admire your images.
One of our previous experiences with invitations such as this one, was with the request we sent out asking for images where the image of CHE would be represented. Those images contributed largely to what later became an international exhibition presented in major Museums around the world. Of course for such things to happen, we have to get very interesting images in the first place.
We look forward to publishing all your wonderful photographs. You can send us up to seven of your best pictures, so please start sending them as soon as you possibly can. Log in often to the following address to check if your pictures have already been published:
http://zonezero.com/convoca/valentines2007/index.html
The entire staff of ZoneZero joins me in sending you our most caring thoughts on this occasion.

Winter renga in progress w/ Andrew Schelling
torn cloud and snow
blown across high glacial rock--
then note of a lone horn
in winter bands of ewes
roaming alpine valleys
even in cities
their tender hooves soothe me
past taxis, frozen slush, hard moon
a cab driver returns a sack of
diamonds left in a trunk
in my heart
love's bright facets, though rain's
washed out the love poem
tired sonnets & lackluster odes fall
short of summer showers' beauty
the road of poetry
is dark, bitter, & solitary --
Hah-hah!
prizing a shared connection
tidings sent across the currents
this morning I see
"the person you were born"
in your left eye tears, sing to me
blown across high glacial rock--
then note of a lone horn
in winter bands of ewes
roaming alpine valleys
even in cities
their tender hooves soothe me
past taxis, frozen slush, hard moon
a cab driver returns a sack of
diamonds left in a trunk

Interior art by Ferenc Suto, David Lukowski and Larry Lee. Retail price $16 + $3 shipping & handling. Soon to be available thru SPD for anyone considering course adoption. And the book will be available at AWP at the SPD table.

MiPo Radio
"Meat Stone" and "Brassica Chinensis" are included in podcast No. 19 of Bob Marcacci's Countdownat this link, about midway through the program. Bill Allegrezza also has some work up.
Some folks on the Buffalo List are debating whether or not Bill Corbett should be elected as Poet Laureate of Boston. I think much better choices,( and I've written about it to Councilman John Tobin), would be Afaa Weaver or Charles Coe of the MCC, neither of whom are publishers in the way that Corbett is, but both of whom are very important cultural workers active in their local communities. Afaa runs the Zora Neale Hurston Poetry Center at Simmons, mentors emerging African-American poets through his work with Cave Canem, and puts on a very ambitious Chinese Poetry Conference that brings together scholars, translators, and poets from around the globe. Coe works with artists/writers and the community through his longstanding work with the state arts council. Coe ran a literary series out of his living room for many years and is also a gifted musician.
As a longtime former resident of Boston (7 years spread out over Allston, Brookline, the Back Bay, and Watertown), I feel that this is well worth weighing in on and would encourage other present and former Bostonians to write in.
