New year, new poem

Restoration

one year out from
surgery, the physician

finds pale halos
circling my retinas,

rings of white
keloid scars scoring

where laser carved
tissue, the enhancement

of cornea that I

might better discern
what’s at arm’s length

the cracks & fissures

marking the breaks
in an earthenware calix

fragments joined together
by lacquer, an artery

dusted in gold, see
what was fractured

made more precious
by virtue of its wound
