I read yesterday for the Tapestry of Voices curated by Harris Gardner at the Forest Hills Poetry in the Chapel series. The reading took place in a beautiful stained glass church on the grounds of the Forest Hills Cemetery. I read with Joanna Nealon, Timothy Gager and Jeffrey Harrison. Joanna is this very interesting poet who I've heard read at the old Gallery Diablo series and at Borders Bookstore, Harris' other venue. Joanna is bilnd and recites her poetry which is very much concerned with metaphysical issues and the spirit. She had SUCH a presence, both in the delivery of her poetry and her engagement with the audience. Timothy curates the Out of the Blue Dire Readings Series which recently came out with an anthology of their featured poets. It was a treat to hear Jeffrey Harrison's work. Jeffrey lives in Dover and this was my first time hearing his work - he chose to read all elegies - a piece for this teacher Kenneth Koch, and several pieces for his brother.

Harris is also organizing the upcoming national poetry month festival at the Boston Public Library in cooperation with Kaji Aso. The line-up is looking pretty good, though it's not yet posted on the library site - Rosanna Warren, Afaa Weaver, Diana der Hovanessian, and many others are scheduled to read.. Those events will take place over the weekend of April 3-4 at either BPL or a space at Northeastern University (for readings on Sunday).
