Deborah Ager has an interesting post going on the value of the on-line journal and publication. I've noticed too, especially among my students and poetic associates, that a greater respect and value seems to be assigned to print publications for the book/material object aspect of the thing and being able to walk into the Trident Bookstore on Newbury Street and see yourself in print. What I say to my students is to consider the possibilities that exist beyond the page, pointing them to Faruk Ulay's Locus Novus and Oregon's Born Magazine which has won much acclaim for its innovative design and collaborative spirit. Read A Van Jordan's ghazal on a bluesman from "Rise" and compare to how the folks at Born interpreted this piece.
