Renunciation of one's belongings becomes somewhat easier when faced with a shortage of square footage. At the last minute had to downsize many much loved pieces of furniture and bicycles - 2 chairs which we dragged from a thrift store on Washington Ave in the South End to Brookline 3 years ago, a Huffy Sea Trail 3 speed bicycle with vintage leather seat and my own mountain bike, 2 triangular end tables and some embroidered Chinese pillows which we inherited from our friend Sandy. I watched Door 2 Door pick up our shipping crate this morning - the worker on the forklift swearing, "Man alive, what's in this thing!". But we stayed well under the 2,000 pound max and the crate is safely on the trailer and off it disappears to some warehouse. Now an empty house that needs to be scrubbed down and last minute things to pack. Almost on our way. Flying out to Dallas tomorrow afternoon/evening and off the blog for a little while at least. Death death and more death. I have never felt so unenlightened.
