Wrapped up tour of SoCal yesterday with a reading at Tebot Bach in Huntington Beach. Mifanwy Kaiser runs a series based at Golden West College, held in one of the college’s student centers which was transformed from an institutional fluorescent feel, into a salon-like atmosphere thanks to the efforts of the program coordinator Leland. Like most of the other readings I did over the past two weeks, the program kicked off with an open mic comprised of poets from the local community and several college students (many of them students of Mifanwy). James Ysidro read a marvelous poem on the composer Schamburg. Another man by the surname of Bonomo (Italian for “good man”) read with TS Eliot like cadences and presence.
